Matteo Colorio is a PhD candidate in International Law (PhD Programme in Human Rights, Global Politics and Sustainability) at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy. His research focuses on frameworks for coordinating international, regional, and domestic accountability efforts for core international crimes. Matteo’s PhD research project focuses on the concept of ‘reverse cooperation’ in international criminal justice.
Matteo holds a five-year law degree from the University of Trento where he graduated with a thesis titled "The Aut Dedere Aut Judicare System: Re-Enforcing Domestic Prosecutions in a Future Crimes Against Humanity Convention". Matteo also obtained an LL.M. with certificates in International Law and Business and Corporate Law from Washington University in St. Louis.
Before his PhD, Matteo gained professional experience at both international and domestic levels, including with the Crimes Against Humanity Project, the International Criminal Court, the Court of Appeals of Rome, and the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights. Most recently, he has been involved in the project “International Criminal Law and Current Instruments of Judicial Cooperation on International Crimes,” organized by the CNPDS Foundation and funded by the Italian Ministry of Justice. As part of this project, Matteo is a co-host of the podcast ‘Echi di giustizia’ dedicated to international criminal justice.
